The term “hybrid equipment” is one we like to use at the boutique. These types of skis, bindings and light boots can be used for both ascents and descents, but without compromising performance. This equipment is more fun to use and more solid than skis specifically designed for alpine touring (and only alpine touring), which are often lighter to make climbing easier at the expense of stability and fun during the descent.
The advantage of hybrid equipment in comparison to equipment dedicated solely to climbing is felt in the descent, where all the effort put into the climb really becomes worthwhile. There is a common misconception that hybrid skis and boots are much heavier than regular equipment, but there are only a few grams difference between the two.
The most important part of your equipment will always be the boots. Almost half of our boot selection this season falls into the hybrid category. Comfortable boots with lots of amplitude to ensure a pleasant climb while also ensuring an amazing descent in total confidence.
