If you have been a ski pass holder for a few years, surely you have seen Mrs. Michèle on the slopes or at the cake cutting on Mont SUTTON’s Anniversary Day. Always elegant, pleasant and well dressed. Mrs. Michèle Boulanger-Bussière is no longer with us, she left us on July 29, 2021, but she leaves an important legacy both in the DNA of Mont SUTTON and in the world of fashion in Quebec. Her contribution to the fashion world was so important that her work is cited and praised wherever she was involved. So much so that the Sutton Museum has decided to dedicate an entire exhibition to her to honor her work. The exhibition “À la mode de chez nous” is presented at the Sutton Museum until October 10th.

Mrs. Michèle Boulanger-Bussière was born in 1937, the youngest of six children; four brothers: Réal, Robert, Benoit, Hercule, and one sister: Édith. In 1960, her brothers and her father opened together the Mont SUTTON ski resort. In addition to being an avid skier, she became a ski instructor and later became vice-president of marketing. She had two great passions: skiing and fashion. Co-owner of Mont SUTTON with her brothers, on the board of directors and involved in the administration for the construction of Val Sutton, she was also involved in the fashion industry throughout Quebec. Seamstress, fashion designer, instigator of fashion teaching programs in Quebec, she was also involved on many boards and thus puts Quebec fashion in the forefront beyond borders.

After being hired by the Provincial Government to make Montreal an international fashion center and directing the fashion program at LaSalle College, she had an important role to play in the creation of the École supérieure de la mode de Montréal at UQAM. We are talking about a strong woman who has undeniably left her mark on Quebec fashion and we like to think about what skiing has brought to fashion and what fashion has brought to skiing. In any case, there is no doubt that she brought elegance to the slopes and we know that she also talked about skiing at Mont SUTTON everywhere she went.

All the achievements of this pioneer have been rewarded by the highest distinction that Quebec offers to its citizens, the nomination to the National Order of Quebec!

The exhibition at the Museum presents the whole of her life and career through the many sparkling pieces of her wardrobe. Get more details here.
