Disc golf : play solo or in team

By  - Published on

Disc golf is a growing sport that deserves to be better known. The beauty of this sport is that it can be played alone or with a teammate! What more could you ask for for a successful day with family and friends?

Players have the option of playing the course individually, with each player playing their shot one after the other as indicated in the game rules. However, there is also the possibility to play as a team according to the styles offered by the Disc Golf Quebec community.

Long game, fast game, collaborative or competitive, between amateurs or whatever the caliber of each one, we hope that these game ideas will allow you a great first game or new ways to play and replay!

To learn the basics, the rules and a few technical points of disc golf, take a look at our article on these topics.

Here are few different possibilities:

Play the best shot (as a team)
For example, you are in a group of four people, so create two pairs before you start the game. One pair starts the course by throwing their own disc. The other team then plays. Once all the discs have been thrown, each pair determines which disc is the best, in other words, the one that is farthest or best positioned in relation to the basket. With each throw and each new basket, the process is repeated until the 18th basket is made.

Playing the best shot (as a group)
This is the same formula as the best shot mentioned above, with one difference: all players in a group throw their discs one after the other. Once everyone has thrown, they decide together which disc has the most advantageous location, and then they all play their next shot in the same location throughout the game.

Playing the worst shot (as a team or group)
Is the sport getting too easy for you? Give yourself a challenge by playing worst shot. This is the opposite of the best shot, but the same rules apply. All players in a group throw their disc, then play their next shot from the worst disc. Counter-intuitive, right?

Alternate play on the same hole (recommended for families)
If you want to keep the course simple and fast for all members of the family, go with this option! It’s simple, within a group, everyone plays the same disc to get to the basket. The first player throws the starting disc, the next player on the team throws in turn from the landing point of the first disc, alternating to the basket. This way of playing allows everyone to work together and makes the challenge more enjoyable for young children!
The course is on the mountain, so the elevation can be a nice challenge for young children. This collaborative method will add to the success of the day and you’ll be glad of the opportunity to get your kids moving outdoors under the guise of a game of disc golf!

Play for the most baskets
This mode of play is perfect for those who wish to learn the sport, since the way to play, in this case, does not depend on the throws, but rather on who wins the most baskets. Therefore, in a group, the number of shots played is not counted, only the number of holes won by each individual. To win a hole, you have to hit the basket with the fewest number of shots. Therefore, the winner is the one who has the most points at the end of the course.
