A new phase of investments at Mont SUTTON
It is with great excitement that we are able to announce a second important phase of investments focused on diversifying and developing a four season offer while consolidating and improving the skiing product as well at Mont SUTTON. The launch of these new investments has been accelerated thanks to the allocation of nearly $1.8 million in financial assistance by the Gouvernement du Québec.
The announcement of the governmental assistance was made today by the Minister of Tourism, Mrs. Caroline Proulx, the Minister responsible for Education, Minister responsible for the Status of Women and MNA for Brome-Missisquoi, Mrs. Isabelle Charest, and the President of Tourisme Cantons-de-l’Est, Mr. Benoit Sirard. The amounts announced by the government and our current investments at Mont SUTTON will increase the notoriety of the mountain; enhance the tourism offer and the attractiveness of the region.
The continuation of the strategic development plan
The past year in the midst of the pandemic it has not been easy for anyone. However, it did not hinder the pursuit of the improvement and development efforts at the resort, as laid out in our strategic development plan.
This new phase follows the more than $5M already invested since the purchase of the resort by the new owners. Since 2016 and during phase 1, we have proceeded to improve the capacity of the snowmaking system (pumps, piping, new snow guns) and to acquire new grooming machines, the development of mountain bike trails in partnership with Plein air Sutton/MTB, the development of a rest and restaurant area for the summer period, and much more.
In addition to developing the four-season offer through new activities, the $5 million in dedicated investments between now and 2023 will be allotted to continue improving the snowmaking and trail maintenance systems, and to develop and improve ski and mountain bike trails. The projects also include the development of recreational and obstacle courses, culminating in a signature lookout. This will provide visitors with exceptional views of the beautiful Sutton region. Moreover, the addition of mountain sculptures is planned to enhance and enrich the open air museum and support culture and the arts in the Sutton region. With all these initiatives, we wish to highlight the environment, the unique views and landscapes and create a more captivating and stimulating mountain experience. An experience filled with “Purement SUTTON” moments.
Great news: Double zipline, the longest in the region
We can’t wait to introduce you to it this summer! You will be able to try it and enjoy the rush provided by our new summer activity, our double zipline! The thrill seekers among you will be able to take off from summit of the main chairlift. The first portion will take off from the top of the main chairlift and will offer breathtaking views of the Sutton region and valley, before journeying through the rich canopy of the mountain and flying high above the ski trails. A second section of zipline, nearly 400 m in length, will find its destination in proximity of the main chalet at the foot of the mountain. It will be almost 1400 m of zipline courses in service this year at Mont SUTTON.
Coming soon: Zipline with turns, North American first
To increase the zipline offer at Mont SUTTON and which will be nothing less than a North American first, in its final development stages is a zipline with turns. It will come to fruition in the near future. Completely anchored in the DNA of Mont SUTTON, it will please zipline lovers by its uniqueness and by its course woven into the surrounding nature, taking you through the trees at high speed.
Over $10 million in investments
By the end of this phase, more than $10M will have been invested in improvement and development efforts at the mountain since 2016. All the projects will allow Mont SUTTON to enrich and increase the offer by new distinctive outdoor activities as well as to develop, improve and upgrade some outdoor infrastructures and existing equipments.
We are continually working to develop projects that confirm Mont SUTTON’s position as a four-season outdoor destination of the Eastern Townships, of Quebec and of Eastern North America. We are reaching another important milestone of our strategic development plan with the completion of these projects. By becoming a leading four-season destination in Quebec, we are working to ensure the sustainability of the resort and your access to outdoor activities on this majestic mountain. Moreover, we will participate even more in the regional economy, a fact that concerns us all. So, in the end, we all win!
