More than a million invested for the 2017-2018 season at Mont SUTTON

SUTTON, October 3, 2017 – Mont SUTTON, a major ski resort located in the Eastern Townships, is actively getting ready for the beginning of the 2017-2018 season. Improvement to the snowmaking system are being made, the new charging stations for electric cars have been set up, two new sculptures will be added on the mountain, the Boutique Expérience SUTTON will have a brand new K2 “shop in shop”, virtual reality will be added, and the reflection regarding the products diversification on four seasons with the master plan continues.

Major improvement for the snowmaking system

Mont SUTTON will invest this year close to a million dollars in its snowmaking system, bringing the total investment to 1.5 million in the last two years. There will be 39 new fixed snow guns in the Alouette and Cascade trails allowing to maximize the strike force right at the beginning of the season. What’s more, the addition of a second T40 fan gun will improve the quality of snow in the Family Zone to facilitate the learning of snow sports in even better conditions. The 2017-2018 season also marks the beginning of a long term plan to change the plumbing for the air and water supply system. These changes put together will allow an important energy gain, an increased reliability, a productivity gain and a better quality of the snow produced at higher temperatures.

10 charging stations for electric cars

Electric car drivers can now charge their car when they visit Mont SUTTON. They will have the possibility to use for free one of five Tesla chargers or five universal 240V ClipperCreek chargers.

Two new sculptures on the mountain

Skiers could already look at four different sculptures on the mountain: a woodpecker, a bear, and two porcupines. A superb owl, made from tires, metal and wood, created by artist Marek Latzmann, has been added to the already existing collection in the Sutton-Ik trail. The curious ones can now spot it on the new trail guide.

The second sculpture, made by Daniel Haché, represents a cow on cedar skis and has a 5-foot diameter, a reference to the business origins that started with a creamery. It was offered to the Boulanger family for its implication in the touristic and economic development of the region. It is an initiative of the CLD of Brome-Missisquoi in collaboration with the town of Sutton.

Snowboard is back at the Boutique Expérience SUTTON

Snowboarders will be happy to know that Boutique Expérience SUTTON will have a brand new K2 “shop in shop” with K2 snowboards, bindings, boots, and splitboards selected specifically for Mont SUTTON’s varied terrain.

Many new brands will also arrive at the ski shop: Nordica ski boots, Komperdell poles, Goode, carbon poles, K2 snowboard and twin tips, Marker Kingpin bindings, and the Steep Series collection from North Face. These new brands will be added to the already well-established partners including Rossignol, Scott, Atomic, Fischer, Head, Völkl, Peak Performance, Hestra, POC, Dalbello, Scarpa and others.

Virtual reality at the Fall Festival

Mont SUTTON will present a new virtual reality skiing experience starting this Thanksgiving weekend at the Fall Festival. Visitors will have the chance to live two different experiences:

  • An ascension up the alpine touring trail with Lyne Bessette, Canadian athlete;
  • A descent in the slopes and glades of Mont SUTTON with an experienced skier.

The reflection continues

The reflection that started last year with the start of the master plan will continue by focusing on the long term diversification of the activities at Mont SUTTON. The plan, made in concert with Eco Sign and Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton, will allow to verify both the potential and the best opportunities for the development of the mountain and four season products diversification, to determine and prioritize each of the development phases to come, while staying true to the resort’s authentic DNA. This desire was shown with the addition of 25 km of mountain bike trails and an Enduro trail created in partnership with Plein air Sutton/MTB.
