NEW CHAIRLIFT COMING AT MONT SUTTON
MAJOR CHANGE FOR THE 2026-2027 SEASON
SUTTON, May 27, 2025 – Mont SUTTON is thrilled to announce a major milestone in the mountain’s development plan: the installation of a brand new quad chairlift with a boarding carpet, set to open for the 2026-2027 season!
A big Investment for a major improvement
As part of the mountain’s strategic development plan and its goal to enhance the guest experience, this new quad chairlift with a boarding carpet will be installed in the west sector of the mountain. It will improve comfort for beginners and families while optimizing group access and overall guest flow.
The chairlift will be equipped with RFID access gates, and the project also includes upgrades to the learning area, which will involve relocating the current magic carpet for beginners and adding a second introductory carpet. Snowmaking infrastructure in this area will also be improved.
The investment for the purchase and installation of the new lift alone amounts to $8 million.
A Canadian First
It’s official! Mont SUTTON has purchased a new quad chairlift with a capacity of 2,400 people per hour: a SkyTrac model from Leitner Poma, marking the first installation of its kind in Canada!
The entire team is proud and excited to announce this major acquisition. After years of work behind the scene and detailed analysis, Jean-Michel Ryan, President and CEO of Mont SUTTON, expressed his satisfaction with this milestone that brings the teams hard work & the mountain’s development vision to life: “This announcement is the culmination of years of planning by all our teams. Moreover, the SkyTrac quad chairlift, thanks to the overall quality of the proposal from Poma Canada, meets all the essential criterias sought by Mont SUTTON.”
Opening Planned for the 2026-2027 Ski Season
Construction is scheduled to begin in spring 2026, with the lift opening in time for the 2026-2027 ski season.
More than just enhancing the guests experiences, the replacement of the three double chairlifts of the west zone will also make operations easier for the employees in operation.
The new chairlift will start from the family zone, near the main chalet, offering easy access to the entire west sector. The redesigned area for beginner and intermediate skiers will help distribute guests more evenly between the new lift and the main one.
Significant Contribution from the ministère du Tourisme through the PARIT
This major project is made possible thanks to the support of the ministère du Tourisme. In spring 2024, the government of Québec granted $5 million to Mont SUTTON through the Programme d’aide à la relance dans l’industrie touristique (PARIT – meaning Tourism Industry Recovery Assistance Program) to implement the second phase of its project to become a four-season leading destination in the Eastern Townships. This phase also includes the addition of RFID gates at chairlifts, new four-season glamping sites near Chairlift V, and the continued growth of the open-air museum along the ski runs.
Having taken a significant turn in recent years by investing heavily in snowmaking capabilities and diversifying its four-season activities, Mont SUTTON has already invested over $12 million since 2016 in its revitalization. With this new wave of investments totaling an estimated $11 million, the mountain will have invested over $23 million in infrastructure modernization, equipment upgrades, system improvements, and its transformation into a four-season destination — featuring a 1 km giant zipline, a zipline coaster, a disc golf course, camping sites at the summit, mountain biking trails, and chairlift rides!
Lastly, it worth saying that this new large-scale chairlift project represents the largest investment in the ski station history, as it heads into its 65th season this coming winter!
