About multiple sclerosis and the MS Society of Canada

Canada has one of the highest rates of multiple sclerosis (MS) in the world. On average, 12 Canadians are diagnosed with MS every day. MS is a chronic autoimmune disease of the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord). MS is considered an episodic disease, meaning that it is characterized by disabling attacks of varying severity and duration, often followed by phases of remission. It can also present in a progressive form. It usually occurs in people between the ages of 20 and 49, and the unpredictable effects of the disease are felt throughout their lives. The MS Society provides support and information to people affected by MS and advocates on their behalf. The MS Society also funds research into the cause and cure of MS to move us closer to a world free of MS.
