The Club de Ski Sutton<\/a> has joined the #D\u00e9connect\u00e9PourPerformer<\/strong><\/a> (Disconnected To Perform) movement, an initiative launched by a few alpine ski clubs in the Laurentians at the start of the 2024-2025 season. This movement, also embraced by the Club de Ski du Mont Orford, the Club de Ski Owl’s Head and the Club de Ski Bromont, is rapidly gaining in popularity, and with good reasons.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Since the holiday season, parents of athletes have been made aware of the distractions of cell phones during trainings. Parents and coaches work together to raise awareness amongst athletes. They are strongly encouraged to leave their cell phones at home, or to keep them warm in their bag (in the cafeteria), rather than in their coat pocket. The idea is not to set strict rules, but rather to raise awareness of the impact of distractions and cultivate a team spirit. Everyone was receptive to the idea, despite some reluctance. There’s still work to be done.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Usually, cell phone use is in the lifts and during the lunch break. However, managers and trainers have noticed a big difference between before and after the launch of the campaign. There’s more social interactions and feedback in the lifts, and lunch time is now more interactive, with some kids bringing card games. They chat, laugh and share stories, together. This is what keeps alive the spirit of skiing.<\/p>\n

We’ve all looked at our cell phone in the lift. Whether you’re a top-level athlete or a professional amateur skier, when you open your phone, you’re back in your head, in your work, in your responsibilities. The Club de Ski Sutton therefore invites everyone to #D\u00e9connect\u00e9PourPerformer<\/strong><\/a>, or to enjoy the present moment.<\/p>\n
