The Mont SUTTON team is proud to announce that Mont SUTTON has been chosen for its Innovative Practice<\/strong> in the Human Resources Management Initiative<\/strong> category as the “Coup de c\u0153ur de l’industrie 2019” as part of the Prix excellence tourisme<\/strong>, an initiative of the Alliance de l’industrie touristique du Qu\u00e9bec<\/strong>. This award ceremony is intended to celebrate the talent and achievements of those in the tourism industry who are working to make Quebec a world-class destination. This competition, open to the entire industry, recognizes excellence in initiatives in different categories.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Mont SUTTON, in collaboration with Emploi Qu\u00e9bec, the Eastern Townships School Board and C\u00c9DEC, has set up an innovative francisation program in the workplace<\/strong>. This is a first in Quebec! This program, initiated by V\u00e9ronique Dumont, Human Resources Coordinator, aims to offer an annual full-time job to 15 anglophones and allophones in the region in an industry where seasonality of employment is a problem.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

This pilot project allowed participants to develop their French skills while working after the training. During the sixteen weeks of the course, students receive a salary from Mont SUTTON. During the winter, they will be employed at the station. During the 2020 summer season, they will be offered a job at Mont SUTTON or with a tourism partner in Sutton.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

This francization program is an incredible opportunity for participants. Indeed, they will be well equipped to be able to thrive in their professional and personal lives and, by the same token, to better integrate into the community and thus improve their quality of life.<\/p>\n

The ceremony for the presentation of the participants’ certificates of recognition took place at Bar Le Tucker on November 18th. Several beautiful testimonies were heard, including those of Tiffany Monk and Arley Restrepo Guzman, two participants in the Francization Program.<\/p>\n

Tiffany Monk<\/strong> immigrated to Canada in 2016 on an International Experience Canada (IEC) work visa. She lived in British Columbia until recently where she received her permanent resident visa. Tiffany now lives in Quebec and wanted to work at Mont SUTTON for its unique atmosphere and mountain lifestyle. She didn’t speak French at all a few months ago so she didn’t think she could work at the mountain this winter. It is thanks to the francization program that allows her to learn French intensively that she was able to get the job at the main chalet. Tiffany says that this experience allowed her to quickly learn the basics of French, which helped her integrate into the community. She also recognizes the importance of being bilingual and that being able to communicate in French with everyone will bring her future opportunities.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Arley Restrepo Guzman<\/strong>, a Colombian refugee who arrived in Canada in 2008, unfortunately did not have the opportunity to continue the French language training offered to newcomers. It is now in 2019, 11 years later, that with Mont SUTTON’s francization program, he finally had this opportunity. Arley says he is really happy and above all very grateful to be able to participate in the francization program and to be part of the team.<\/p>\n
